Nanoscent

Brand Strategy and Creative Direction
My role: strategic design advisor, branding

My job was to bring design leadership to Nanoscent and create a North Star for its entire DNA design ecosystem. Working with the founders and investors, we created a visual identity as innovative as their technology.

NanoScent is making scents readable. Their offering is for diverse customers providing managers with an objective tool to measure scent anytime, anywhere. They needed a brand strategy that aligned with this mission. I guided them throughout the process: creating a high-level design brief, hiring a brilliant design agency, and art direction from concept to finish.

The Process

We engaged Edenspiekermann in Berlin and had the Nanoscent team to create the company’s brand values during several workshops in person and over ‘Zoom.’ This helped us and Edenspiekermann to align the visual vocabulary for the brand to be.

Other Concepts

Other ideas that were beautifully executed but weren’t chosen, include the one below. It is always helpful to know that it takes leadership to help pick a winner.

Conservative Approach

The above exploration was more ‘tame’ and ’expected’ with a flag that also looked like the head of a rhinoceros: ultimately, we went for a more simple, yet distinct design that represents how scent seems to waft through air.
